INTELLIGENCE REVIEW

Honorable Visitor!

The Intelligence Review is a professional periodical edited by the MIO, which appears quarterly, and its special, memorial and classified numbers on a given occasion.
The Committee of Military Science belonging to the IX. Section at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has registered our IR among the “Hungarian periodicals encompassing certain fields of military science”, and “on the list of valuable periodicals usable during the doctorate procedure of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
The Minister of Defense qualified the MIO as a research place in 2002. It is the AC that directly controls the academic activity at the MIO. It is responsible for taking care of and supervising the Intelligence Review. The IR’s first number was issued in September 2002. The summarized contents of the volumes edited until now have been regularly published by the Editorial Board.
Criteria for publishing in the IR:

In harmony with the IR’s feature, we published above all those elaborated and analyzed writings – studies, articles – and other materials, which deal with defense issues, including primarily national security, intelligence and reconnaissance-related questions. The main columns: Security policy; Intelligence; Research-Development; Country profile; Training-Preparation; Forum; Academic work. These columns can, to some extent, orientate the authors in selecting their topics.
The authors can send their manuscripts to the AC’s Chairman, Editorial Board’s Chairman and the responsible redactor. We ask the authors to enclose in their manuscript their name, rank, position, permanent address, phone number and Internet address. They have to send all this to the e-mail address of the permanent administrator (Sergeant Major Krisztina Tóth).
If possible, the extent of the manuscript should be confined to one author’s sheet (40,000 characters or 20-21 pages).
Furthermore, we ask the authors to write their studies with 12-sized characters, one and a half space, to place their pictures, figures and charts in an electronically processable form. We ask also a hard copy of the study. After a previous consultation, there is a possibility for the authors to send the manuscript on Internet, to the address of the permanent administrator.
We pay royalties for the accepted writings, in accordance with the relevant regulations in force at the MoD. Writing a study is qualified as an independent intellectual activity, which can entitle the authors to tax allowances. The Editorial Board has the manuscript, on every occasion, controlled and read by advisers.
All authors can publish in our periodical if their writings are accepted and regarded by the Editorial Board as worthy of publication or appearance on the Internet.
The authors and advisers of the articles issued in the IR are entitled to a complimentary copy. We retain the no-published manuscripts only until the end of the given year, but if the author wishes, we give him back.
In order to keep the whole MIO staff well informed, all the contents of our periodicals can be reached on the Internet and can be used, if the user indicates the source of the given writing.

Honorable Visitor

The Intelligence Review represents a special forum for posing and answering scholarly questions related to home defense, security policy and national security. Thus, the opinions expressed in the studies are – on some occasions – quite different from the official standpoints of the MIO’s Academic Committee. Nevertheless, we respect everybody’s valuable opinion – even if it differs from ours – and publish it in order to contribute to the development of the constructive academic thinking and work.
